System Overview

The AMI LNG vehicle fuel gauging system is designed specifically for mobile vehicles such as trucks or buses operating on LNG fuel. This same technology also has application on Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The system consists of an integral level sensor mounted inside the tank, an electronics module, standard analog dash mounted gauge and cables. The electronics module is designed to be bolted onto the truck chassis with cables connecting to the power source, tank sensor, and dash-mounted gauge.

Advanced Electronics

The electronics are microprocessor-based, compact, and have low power requirements. The electronics are rated for an operating environment of - 40 to + 85 oC. The LNG vehicle gauging system is designed to operate on 12 Vdc power and has built-in overvoltage startup/jump start protection that keeps the instrument operating during and after such conditions occur. The gauging system includes a standard 2-1/8" dash mounted type LNG fuel gauge, power wiring, signal wiring and a cable for connection to the sensor. The electronics module is mounted to the chassis via supplied mounting studs and is housed inside a NEMA 4 fully weather-proof enclosure. The electronic unit is calibrated at the AMI factory. No calibration is necessary during or after installation. Wiring is simple and easy. This means that electronics enclosures can be installed or changed in the field without any complicated calibration process. The unit is designed to withstand 12 Vdc mis-wiring without damage.

Rugged Level Sensor

The unit utilizes a specially designed AMI liquid level sensor which is constructed of stainless steel tubing that is extremely rigid and has no moving parts. This is especially important for the LNG truck and bus market where rough road conditions are the norm. The sensor can be clamped or welded inside the tank without affecting subsequent readings. This sensor is designed to be an integral part of the tank and is not field removable or replaceable. Rigidity, reliability, thermal input, accuracy, and ease of installation were all factors carefully considered for this LNG application. AMI will work closely with the LNG tank manufacturer to ensure complete system integration for long term reliability and performance.
